What, How & Why: A Closer Look - Featuring David Noyes

At iPrintfromHome.com, we work with artists and photographers from across the United States and Canada. We're inspired everyday by the images that they send to us and by the stories they share.
In our "What, How & Why" interview series, we take a closer look at some of these fascinating people.

We've asked each participating artist or photographer three simple questions:

1. What do you do?
2. How do you do it?
3. Why do you use iPrintfromHome.com?

Please read on to find out more about David Noyes.

Travel Writer and Photographer

What do you do?
As a travel writer and photographer, I have been fortunate to visit some of the world's great places and have been touched by both the beauty and tragedy of the human condition. I enjoy traveling to places that take me outside of my comfort zone and challenge my understanding of the world. I have learned to travel with innocent eyes, without prejudice and preconception, and to cherish my chance encounters. I was named the North American Travel Tournalist (NATJA) travel photographer of the year in 2010, 2011, and 2013. I am also very proud to have won two prestigious Lowell Thomas Awards for Excellence in travel journalism.  In 2013, I launched Innocent Eyes Project, Inc., a United States-based nonprofit corporation that supports child education programs in the developing world. My first book, The Photographing Tourist: A Storyteller's Guide to Travel and Photography, was published in 2015.

How do you do it?
As the title of my book suggests, my travel experiences have almost always been on an organized tour or cruise, with a planned itinerary, accompanied by a group of strangers. They have been trips that I designed and led, trips I have escorted for tour operators, press trips I was invited to join, conference excursions, or custom itineraries with my wife on a holiday adventure. Working as a photographer on tour, you don't have the luxury to come back when the light is better, or on a different day. An itinerary, by definition means that you will be at this place, at this time, for this long, and you will probably never be back. The challenge is to think differently and make the most of the thirty minutes, hour, or two hours before moving on to the next location. I have actually grown to enjoy the challenge of a deadline, the uncertainty of my circumstances, and the lack of control.

Why do you use iPrintfromHome.com?

I have known George Campos for most of my adult life. I started to learn my craft making color prints at his photography center in the mid 1980s.  As the world shifted from the film to digital and moved online, George embraced the change and offered photographers a professional online resource that is among the finest in the country. When I placed my first order with iPrintfromHome, I had no question that the quality would exceptional. I have used their prints for several exhibits of my work and as presentations to valuable supporters of my charity. I am fortunate to be within driving distance of their shop, so I have also been able to get to know Sara as well. They have built a wonderful business that is building a stellar reputation with photographers across the country.
